We all want curls that are big, bold, and voluminous—but not if it means turning our heads into crispy little puffballs.

The holy grail? Achieving volume that lasts while keeping your curls soft, defined, and totally touchable. And yes, it’s absolutely possible (even if you’ve got fine curls or looser waves).

This blog’s for those who love a bit of lift, fluff, and movement—without the crunch. Let’s talk about techniques, tools, and products that will get you there.

Step One: Lift from the Roots

The secret to volume starts at the roots. Before you even think about diffusing, you want a strong hold product that will help to create volume. Grab your Chutzpah Volumising Foam and work a generous amount through your roots while your hair is still wet or damp, then apply your Gel through the mid-lengths and ends. We recommend Oomph layered over the top using the prayer hands technique.

Why we love Chutzpah: It’s light enough that it won’t weigh curls down but packs the kind of volumising punch that wakes up limp roots and helps your style last longer.

Step Two: Diffuse Like a Pro

If you're diffusing (and honestly, we recommend it if you want that bouncy finish), try this trick: hover diffuse your roots first while your head is upside down or tilted. This helps lift the roots away from the scalp, encouraging natural volume.

Once roots are about 80% dry, switch to cup-diffusing (where you gather the curls in the bowl of your diffuser). Alternate your head position to help your hair dry evenly and avoid flat spots.

Step Three: The Power of the Volume+ Root Lift Combs

Once your hair is dry, here’s where the magic happens. Reach for your Volume+ Root Lift Combs and gently fluff at the roots. These combs are designed to lift without disrupting your curl pattern—think of them as a soft pick-me-up for your hair.

Fluffing can be as subtle or dramatic as you want. Start at the crown or wherever your curls tend to flatten out first, and work your way around the head. You’ll be amazed what just a few seconds of fluffing can do.

Pro Tip- When your using combs (or fingertips) to fluff, consider your hair type- Coily and Curly hair types can handle some serious fluffing, without disrupting the curl pattern. Wavy hair types require a more gentle approach to fluffing. If you go too hard you might lose that gorgeous volume you've just created.

Finishing Touches

To keep all that gorgeous volume in place, give your curls a final mist of Hold-It Hairspray. A light spray at the roots and around the crown adds a soft barrier against frizz and collapse—without creating stiffness.

If your curls still feel a little too fluffy or you want to smooth down any halo frizz, finish with a drop of Hush Nourishing Oil on your hands and lightly scrunch or smooth as needed.

Bonus Tip: Sleep Smart

To preserve volume overnight, try a loose pineapple bun on top of your head and sleep on a silk or satin pillowcase. In the morning, a quick fluff will bring everything back to life.

With the right approach, big volume and soft, bouncy curls are totally compatible. It’s all about giving your roots a little boost, treating your curls gently, and choosing the right products to support your style. So go ahead—pump it up!
